| How long can I keep LIPTON teas? |
Our teas are date stamped for your convenience.
Tea shelf life varies by the type of tea. Most of our teas, including Black, Iced Tea Brew, Cold Brew Tea, Herbal, Black Flavored Teas, ChaiLatta, Earl Grey and English Breakfast, can be enjoyed up to 18 months from the production date. For Powdered Iced Tea Mix, we recommend a maximum shelf life of 12 months from the production date. LIPTON Original in the 16 oz bottle includes a "drink by" date for your convenience. LIPTON Iced Tea contains an expiration date on the cap.
To understand the manufacturing codes found on all other packages of tea bags and powdered mixes: Look at the number and letter combination on the box. The first number is the year, the next letter is the month and the next two numbers are the day of the month. Use this guide for the months:
| A - January | E - May | X - September | | B - February | F - June | J - October | | C - March | G - July | K - November | | D - April | H - August | L - December |
For example, 4J24 is October 24, 2004.
Some packages of tea bags, and powdered tea mixes will have a readable date code that gives you a "Best if Use By" date. This date, which reads Month, Day and Year is the date which assures the product's optimum quality and freshness. It will generally maintain good quality for several months after that date. Your best guide to freshness is simply to smell and taste the product.
